This beautiful family theme park in the middle of nature is opening its doors for a new season from April 2nd to September 25th, 2016. To celebrate their opening, the park is organizing an awesome egg hunt with Playmobil eggs. And for even more fun, the park has been madeover with three new rides this year. Come join the fun!
Has it been a while since you last took a day off with the family? Well don’t wait any longer, take a day to enjoy the Mer de Sable theme park, celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Situated in a beautiful location in the Ermenonville forest, the Mer de Sable will transport you to other time periods and places for incredible adventures with the whole family.
Young and old adventurers can enjoy three amazing worlds:
- The desert land with huge dunes, “Les Portes du Désert”
- The Wild West world, “Aux temps des Pionniers”
- The mysterious and colorful world, “La Jungle”
Face off with the rapids of the Cheyenne River, cross the Jungle of the Chipakas, fly like a parakeet or take a wild safari ride in a jeep. These are just some of the experiences that are waiting for you at the Mer de Sables!
This is a life-sized park with about thirty attractions and a large outdoor stage that hosts unique and lively shows.
For this new season, the Mer de Sable is offering a fun surprise for its opening––a Playmobil Egg Hunt for kids! The park is joining together with Playmobil to give its early visitors a huge egg hunt on April 2nd, 2016. Over 200 Playmobil eggs will be spread out throughout the park for kids to find throughout the day! It’s a real treasure hunt for all kinds of explorers!
The 2016 Season at the Mer de Sable features:
- SIMOUN, starting on opening day
This new ride will be open from April 2nd, 2016, in the “Portes du Désert” area of the park. When you ride this “Disk’o,” you’re in the middle of a whirlwind, as the name Simoun (a hot desert wind in the Sahara) suggests. 24 adventurers hop aboard and are strapped into their seats around a large disk, facing outward. The disk runs along a U-shaped track while spinning around.
Must be at least 1.2m (about 4 feet) to ride
- AQUASOUC Opens on May 14th
People of all ages can ride a gondola through the shallow waters of an Oriental Souk while spinning around, being sprayed by water canons attached to each boat. There will be lots of splashes, and and a whole lot of laughs, guaranteed! Spectators can even spray the people sitting down in the ride by climbing up on the surrounding decorations and joining in the fun!
Between 90cm 1.2m tall must be accompanied by an adult.
- BANDIDOS Opens on July 9th
The Mer de Sable will be opening its third attraction BANDIDOS, set in the western theme area of the park. It’s a new and wild ride for kids, on a triple loop rail, visitors get in spinning cars for an express trip to pioneer times.
Between 90cm 1.2m tall must be accompanied by an adult. Free access to riders less than 1.1m tall.
The park has a lineup of new shows! Street stunts, the famous train attack on the dune, and equestrian vaulters and other horseback stunts are all part of the program!
- The Pacific Express Attack
When the most coveted train in the West was hijacked by the Garcia Brothers, the infamous and loathed mexican bandits, the Omaha Native American tribe’s chief ordered his warriors to save the passengers on the Pacific Express… Take a ride on horseback through western brawls and stunts that puts you in the heart of the adventure!

- Billy the Kid Can’t Catch a Break
The beautiful Jody has a peaceful life on the O’Hara ranch with her grandfather. But one day, the young Billy the Kid, hot-headed and childish cowboy apprentice shows up on their ranch to steal hay to feed his horse, which Grand Pa O’Hara and Jody capture. Meanwhile, the Garcia brothers, loathed and feared bandits, also decide to pillage the ranch. Billy the Kid falls in love with Jody and ends up helping fighting off the Garcia brothers from the O’Hara property! It’s a burlesque comedy that takes you through waterfalls and wild west brawls, led by 5 stuntmen and an actor….who end up being captured by the audience!

Daily showings at 11:30 a.m. at the Ranch
- Meeting in Carlson City
Each year in Carlson City, a small American city in the west, the best cowboys and cowgirls face off to win the title for “Best Ranch” in the West. Split into two teams, participants will compete in these events that are each more spectacular than the last. The audience supports and elects their favorite team...Who will win this fierce battle? With javelin throwing, equestrian vaulting, and combat acts, this is a truly captivating show!

- Tiger Express, first opened in 2011, brings riders in chariots around turns and quick drops high at 15m up in the air.

- La Rivière Sauvage
Loyal riders and park visitors will be happy to note that the Rivière Sauvage (Savage River) is reopening on May 6th. With new more comfortable and spacious rafts, you can now ride with larger groups (up to 6 people at a time.)Get a taste of summer and cool off after crossing the sandy dunes on the train or riding on the back of a pony.
The Rivière Sauvage is one of the most beloved attractions in the park, taking you on a journey through canyons and down through rapid waters. Must be 1m tall to ride, between 1m and 1.4m must be accompanied by an adult.
- Le Camp des Explorateurs
A new, fun and huge space for learning is now open in the desert area of the park with numerous activities; go on a diamond hunt, on archeological excavations, sand and water games and a relaxation area for parents under North-African tents.
- Expansion of the Trapper Farm
Visitors can discover the Trapper’s farm while riding along the Train des Sables. Opened in 2013, the Trapper’s farm is expanding this year and welcoming more than 200 animals. With animal pens and gardens where the whole family can learn and better understand the lives of multiple species at the Mer de Sable. There are gascon pigs, Jersey cattle, Ouessan sheep, toy goats..

- A series of races for little tikes, adventurers or true sand-runners.
- National HolidayOn Wednesday, July 13th, there will be a light show over the dunes! Attractions will be open until 8 p.m., with fireworks, live music and food. Access to the park is free after 6 p.m.
Well, you get the idea...this park is perfect for small children, and won’t have you waiting in lines all day. And after a long day at at school, nothing is better than a bit of adventure and relaxation! La Mer de Sable is getting up to speed with the school schedule and offering the “billet récré, special ticket for adults visiting with children on Wednesdays after 2 p.m. (Billet récré: 12 euros)
