The weather remains highly unstable, and a risk of thunderstorms is once again forecast for parts of France this Saturday, May 18, 2024. Météo France has placed 39 départements under yellow alert for thunderstorms, including three in the Île-de-France region. We take a look at the forecast.

Will thunder rumble again this Saturday, May 18, 2024 in the Paris region? It's likely. While"nearly 10,000 lightning strikes" hit France last Sunday, new thunderstorms could hit parts of the country this Saturday. For this reason, Météo France has placed 39 of France's départements under yellow alert for thunderstorms on May 18, 2024.

The west of the country, as well as the southeast and northeast, are particularly affected by this alert. In detail, Morbihan, Côtes-d'Armor, Finistère, Loire-Atlantique, Gironde, Charente-Maritime, Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude, Alpes-Maritimes, Bas-Rhin, Vosges, Meurthe-et-Moselle and Moselle have been placed on yellow alert for the risk of severe thunderstorms this Saturday.

"This weekend will continue in the same vein as this week, with marked instability, numerous stormy showers and temperatures often below normal," warns La Chaîne Météo on its website, adding that"France will remain under the influence of a cold drop, resulting in very capricious weather. If you're planning to go out, you'll need to think about wearing a raincoat, as very few regions will escape a shower or rainy spell, or even a thunderstorm, at some point over the weekend".

What about Paris and the Ile-de-France region? Three departments in the Paris region have also been placed on yellow alert for thunderstorms by Météo France this May 18. These are Yvelines, Essonne and Seine-et-Marne.

According to Météo France, severe thunderstorms could hit these three Île-de-France departments this Saturday from 12pm. The thunderstorms could continue throughout the afternoon and early evening until around 8pm.
