Paris: where is the best butter croissant? Here are the 2024 winners

The croissant, a symbol of French culinary savoir-faire par excellence, is on a roll. For several years now, the croissant has been reinvented thanks to the sometimes overflowing creativity of certain bakers. But for many, the butter croissant remains THE benchmark; the viennoiserie that people love to enjoy without any hang-ups at breakfast. In fact, the croissant is the most widely consumed Viennese pastry in France!

But which Parisian bakeries offer the best butter croissants? The answer was provided by the Greater Paris bakers' union, which unveiled the 2024 rankings for the best Charentes-Poitou PDO butter croissant competition among Greater Paris bakers at 12 noon on Monday May 13, during the Fête du Pain. From a total of 136 entries, 120 croissants made by artisan bakers from the four departments of Greater Paris (75, 92, 93 and 94) were tasted and judged. A number of criteria were taken into account to determine the overall winner, including taste of course, but also flakiness, smell and color.

So, drum roll... The best croissant au beurre 2024 in Greater Paris can be found in the 12th arrondissement, at Maison Doucet to be exact. Georges Doucet won first prize in the competition, with a curved croissant that won over the entire jury!

Second place went to Victoire Dary of Boulangerie Victoire, in the capital's 9th arrondissement. Finally, Le Moulin de la Croix Nivert bakery in the 15th arrondissement takes 3rd place, thanks to Jean-Yves Boullier. 4 other Parisian bakers feature in this top 10 list of the best Charentes-Poitou PDO butter croissants in Greater Paris.
