Christophe Michalak's bakery, patisserie and chocolate shop Étienne Marcel, Paris 1er

If you're a fan of chef Christophe Michalak's boulangerie and viennoiseries, you don't have to go to the far end of the 10th arrondissement to enjoy them. The chef has just inaugurated his new gourmet spot at 37 rue Étienne Marcel in the 1st arrondissement. For the first time, this spot combines the patisserie side of his business, already to be found in Saint-Germain, Le Café and the Marais, with the viennoiserie and boulangerie side, previously only to be found in Faubourg Poissonnière.

This new bakery-patisserie-chocolaterie, designed by the Marie Deroudilhe agency, boasts a chic, elegant decor. As you enter, you'll see the large pastry counter on the right. Opposite is the chocolate section, ideal for cocoa-lovers in search of kosmic discoveries.

Finally, on the left, we have the breads, viennoiseries, cookies and other bakery specialties we love so much. In the middle, a central shelf reveals a grocery section with spreads, books and chocolate bars.

From now on, tarts, millefeuilles, breads of all kinds, madeleines and divine flans will rub shoulders with strawberry charlottes, marvels and entremets. On our visit, we fell in love with the Ashta tart, which combines almond cookie, sesame praline flaky pastry and milk cream scented with rosewater and Lebanese orange blossom. Both crunchy and melt-in-the-mouth, with a lightly sweetened milk cream enhanced by oriental flavors, it's a delight. We also fell for the Millefeuille Paris-Brest cacahuète, which combines a praline crunch, a roasted peanut millefeuille and a generous mousseline cream with a peanut praline heart for even more deliciousness.

We also take the opportunity to grab a Bretzel croissant and an ultra-gourmand pecan gianduja cookie, enough to satisfy all our cravings.
