Michalak Master Class
120 euros (cours adulte)
For the inauguration of Michalak's Masterclass and Takeaway, Sortiraparis could not help but go poking its nose around this new parisian place where one can enjoy making amazing pastries with Christophe Michalak and his cronies, or buying them to take away.
You may not know it yet but Christophe Michalak, the renowned new generation pastry chef, opened his cooking school and takeaway shop last September in Paris. For the inauguration, Sortiraparis had a chance to snoop around the place and meet the chef.
Located in the 10th arrondissement, in a neighborhood that takes us away from the Plaza and its upscale clientele, Christophe Michalak feels at home in his school-shop. Pleasant background music, nice fairly simple atmosphere: when you go into the Michalak Masterclass and takeaway, you feel like you are poping into his home. This is not entirely untrue, as it is his first fully self-financed institution, belonging to him 100%. This gives the chef loads of energy and a will to innovate and offer us his very best.
The place, as we told you, has two distinct parts: the takeaway shop and the cooking school. When in the shop to your right, you will find on the shelves, takeaway specialties (spread, food preparations for pastry...), books and other objects, to your right again, on a display, you have the daily specialties. Freshly made by the chef and his team, the Fantastik cake and the Kosmik verrine change every morning.
Inspired by seasonal products, the new Fantastik and the new Kosmik appears before your eyes, different each morning. To know what's in them, rush to the place's facebook page every day around 11.00 a.m. Christophe Michalak wanted, via this idea to provide a more funky pastry, more in tune with the times. With his verrines (the tiny glasses) and spoon, he gives everyone and anyone the opportunity to eat something delicious on the go, without being a right mess when done. The textures are a blend of the finest agreement.
All delicacies for sale, including the cookies and financiers, are prepared on site and sold the same day. Christophe was genuinly keen to offer fresh products, without additives or gelatins, the store offers only products of the day. There is therefore no point going in one day asking for the previous day's verrines...
Let's move on to cooking classes. Different offers are available. Over a period of 3 hours, you can either opt for a cooking class with Marie Meunier, François Daubinet or Yann Menguy or choose the special course Christophe Michalak does himself, once a week. Of course, excellence has its price and learning with the master is most definitely excellence.
Oh and there's more! Your children will now also be able to impress you with the recipes they learn here. For 80 € , children now attend a 2-hours course. Gluten-free pastries, special decoration and dressing, special best of Michalak or cocktail, there are courses to suit all tastes. Right from the start, the Chef wanted to offer courses that would be easy enough, with products one could find without a hassle and recipes everyone could then follow when alone back home.
As the Chef himself keeps saying, people are under the impression that making pastries is difficult, near-impossible. Through his courses, Christopher has the will to prove that everyone can cook and learn to combine flavors, as well as textures. Basically, enjoying the "pâtisserie" without hassle or fear.
By the way... if you are craving for a Fantastik cake but simply cannot imagine leaving the comfort of your home where you get to read Sortiraparis.com whilst on your couch, just have a look at tok tok tok... yes, they do exactly what you're hoping for! Makes one want to sing... "it's a wonderful, wonderful life" !
