Two months after it opened, the temporary morgue that was set in a warehouse of Rungis market is closing this Saturday June 6, 2020. No casket has been stored there since May 13.

While the coronavirus epidemic kept spreading in France, a warehouse of Rungis Market had been requisitioned by the Val-de-Marne prefecture – as asked by Paris Prefect – to turn it into a temporary morgue back to April 3, 2020. After two months, Rungis funeral parlor is closing this Saturday June 6, 2020.

It was set within an isolated warehouse in the famous Rungis Market. It was not the first time this hall was transformed into a temporary morgue: in 2003, it was also used to house the bodies of people who died during the heatwave. During the coronavirus epidemic, another temporary morgue, in Wissous, was also used. It closed back on May 11.

Set up to house the bodies of people who died of Covid-19, the Rungis morgue was able to fit up to 20,000 caskets. But since April 3, the situation has evolved and the coronavirus epidemic was slowing in France, no casket has been housed in Rungis morgue since May 13.

From now on, operators being able to take care of the funeral services of all deaths again, it is no longer necessary for this Rungis warehouse to be used as a morgue.
