Feel like visiting a historic monument in Paris? For European Heritage Days on Saturday September 21 and Sunday 22, 2019, the Conciergerie provides free tours to discover this building looking like a fortified castle and that’s part of Paris history. A remarkable testimony of the civil architecture from the 14th century…
This part of the Palais de la Cité Médiévale (the former living place of the Kings of France) was transformed into a prison during the French Revolution. Now, only remain the Guards room and the Great Hall built under Philippe IV’s reign, as well as the kitchen from John the First’s reign, still in their original state. As for the cells, visitors can discover the one where Queen Marie-Antoinette was locked before she was beheaded.
