From Monet to Kandinsky many painters were interested in painting mysticism, the quest for light, the night experience. The Musée d’Orsay decided to gather together these experiences in a beautiful exhibition to visit from 14 March to 25 June 2017.
Beyond the Stars, the exhibition submitted by the Musée d’Orsay offers to look into the mystical part of the symbolist landscapes. Landscape painting is the pictorial genre known, since the Renaissance and even more since the Romantic era to facilitate the formal translation of the immediate spiritual experiences the language cannot express.
Gauguin, Denis, Monet, Hodler, Klimt, Munch, Van Gogh have then tried to give tangible form to laic, catholic and protestant beliefs and mystical superstitions, including the quest for infinity, the night experience, the quest for light, the quest for the fusion of the individual with the cosmos, the experience of the transcendental forces of nature, as well as the relationship with nature before and after WWI cataclysm.
