After opening a first Musée Yves Saint-Laurent in Paris on October 3, 2017 and a second one in Marrakech on October 19, 2017, the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent keeps on bringing the famous French couturier back to life. So far, the foundation jealously kept 40 years of creations of this true symbol of Parisian Haute Couture.
With over 5,000 clothing pieces, 15,000 accessories and several dozens of thousands of drawings, collection boards and other documents, the collection – used to belonging to the foundation – is of an incredible richness. And for good reason, Yves Saint Laurent is the only fashion designer of his time who took the precaution of archiving his work and this from the very opening of his designer house.
And today, we thank him and from the bottom of our hearts. Because the genius of this fashion forerunner is mostly revived thanks to the opening of these two museums. The Parisian address is nestled in a historical place since it is the Yves Saint Laurent designer house located 5 Avenue Marceau and in which the designer worked for about 30 years. Then, it became the birthing place of the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent and it now houses – from October 3, 2017 – the museum.
For this project, the foundation called out stager Nathalie Crinière and set designer Jacques Grange. Together, they redesigned the exhibition areas of which the surface is doubled and work to reproduce the house’s atmosphere.
So, the former lounges of the designer house and the designer’s creation studio are integrated in the visit. The aim? Immersing visitors in the heart of the creation process of the designer house to fully experience Yves Saint Laurent’s universe. In order to show the richness of his heritage, pieces exhibited will often be renewed, under the responsibility of Aurélie Samule called head of the collections.
Faithful to its will to make culture more accessible, the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent wishes to make the Yves Saint Laurent museums temple of fashion both for connoisseurs and beginners.
