It is now official, the great art exhibition of the Palace of Versailles we all are interested in is entrusted to the Palais de Tokyo, in charge of embellishing the groves with works of art. From October 21, 2017 to January 7, 2018, curator Jean de Loisy promises us a wonderful winter journey!
Each year, the Palace of Versailles organizes a great contemporary art exhibition for which an established artist is invited to embellish its garden during the summer. In 2017, for the 10th edition, the Palace of Versailles changes its offer since the contemporary art exhibition will be held this fall from October 21, 2017 to January 7, 2018 as the Grandes Eaux Fountain Display Days draw to a close.
For 10 years, the Palace of Versailles gives free rein to a contemporary artist who has a few months to realize in situ installations for a unique experience in this timeless place. The challenge is incredible: facing the spirit of the royal palace and the greatness of its gardens worries as much as critics and the billions of yearly visitors that can build the artist’s international reputation or destroy it.
In 2017, President of the Public Administrative institution of the Palace of Versailles, the Museum and the National Domain of Versailles Catherine Pégard asked Jean de Loisy and the Palais de Tokyo to imagine a winter exhibition, a “Winter Journey” that will reveal the groves in the Petit Parc in a new light, from the glory of fall to the stunning freeze-over of winter.
For this fabulous experience, Palais de Tokyo iconic director Jean de Loisy – who already seduced the Mairie de Paris with its White Night 2016, an edition full of magic – asked Palais de Tokyo curators, Yoann Gourmel and Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel. We are looking forward to seeing the finished product!
