The Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie is hosting a major exhibition around special effects in cinema, to be seen with the whole family from October 17, 2017 to August 26, 2018. A very exciting invitation to go behind the scenes of the most impressive effects in cinema history!

Get ready for an extraordinary cinematic experience. The Cité des Sciences et de l' Industrie is transformed into a film set for the duration of the exhibition. The exhibition is divided into five interactive stages:

  • The set
Just like in Hollywood, here the film set resembles real life, being designed like a city. Visitors can take part in a variety of cinematographic devices, such as auditioning, experimenting, creating living beings, using tricks and more.
You'll discover all kinds of special effects: motion capture techniques, the chemistry and sculpting of make-up, green and blue background inlay techniques, the use of fans, 3D screen masks... With a passing comment from the grandfather of special effects, Georges Méliès himself!

  • The studio
Once the film has been shot, it's time for post-production. Here, visitors discover the creation of landscapes, the integration of crowds, digital dubbing, material effects, explosions with invisible effects, image retouching...

  • The cinema
Now that you've experienced the shooting and production of a film, it's time to ask: what are special effects really used for?
