While the windows of Paris department stores are adorned with a thousand jewels for Christmas 2017, at the Grand Palais, we're witnessing an incredible spectacle, an exhibition of the most beautiful Hermès brand windows, on display from November 8 to December 3, 2017.
These windows are all the work of Leïla Menchari, a Tunisian painter who graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Tunis and then the Beaux-Arts de Paris, joined Hermès in 1961 and became artistic director in charge of the Hermès store windows from 1978. Over the past 35 years, Leïla Menchari has created more than 150 magnificent window displays for the 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré store, with a pronounced taste for oriental decor and silks.
As a tribute to the brand, Hermès offers us a journey of eight sketches around the extraordinary worlds imagined by Leïla Menchari, windows designed to showcase the French brand's bags, trunks and accessories (here we find horse saddles, the first piece created by Thierry Hermès in 1837 and now an icon of the House of Hermès). These showcases are explained to us by "storytellers", Hermès enthusiasts who know the history of all the pieces and take us into the enchantment of Leïla Menchari.
The exhibition is free and there's no shopping on the way out, so fashion victims won't leave their wallets behind :)
