Jewels enthusiasts can meet at Paris Musée des Arts Décoratifs for a very beautiful exhibition running from March 7 to July 1, 2018. For 4 months, the Parisian museum displays the exhibition Bijoux d’artistes, de Picasso à Jeff Koons [The Artists as Jewelers, from Picasso to Jeff Koons], coming from Diane Venet’s private collections.
An "Etre" pendant by Ben, a "Compression" pendant by César, a brooch by Georges Braque, a brooch by Keith Haring, some of our artists created jewels like their legendary works. This exhibition is a gold mine, we only want to make copies of these jewels and wear them.
It's unanimous, with Arts Déco jewels, modern jewels, kinetic jewels, Pop jewels, etc, we're blown away. All these artists tried their hands at jewels, more seen as works of art/sculptures to wear around than jewels by goldsmith supposed to enhance the body.
Her collection started by accident, when her husband wrapped her finger with a silver thread. "My passion for art jewel was born THE day Bernar had fun wrapping my left ring finger with a thin silver stick to make it a wedding ring... This gesture - as touching as spontaneous - had another effect on me, it made me want to discover the rather unknown universe of unique art jewels, precious because of their rarity and their symbolical opening often at the origin of their creation."
For 30 years now, Diane Venet collects artists’ jewels and tends to understand the process of each jewel, their stories and keeps the memories of her meeting with artists when it was possible, precious pieces of advice she shared in 2011 in her book “The Artists as Jewelers, from Picasso to Jeff Koons”.
We’re looking forward to discovering these artists’ jewels/works of art!
