Pièces rapportées [returned pieces], here’s the name Théo Mercier gave to his exhibition within the Musée de l’Homme which programming aims at creating deep bounds between the great History of humanity and the modern era. This presentation provides a perfect example since the artist (born in Paris in 1984) offers an anthropological thinking through his works of art.
He collects various objects to make installations dramatically reminding of collections of archeological museums from all over the world: he takes over the presentation and handles the accumulation such as the work hereunder (Le Sens de l’histoire ou la Grande Réduction, 2015 [The Meaning of History or the Great Reduction]) that twists the scape of Greek sculpture to put it at the service of a satirical purpose.
He also collects Eiffel Tower-shaped keyrings or plastic bones, symptomatic of our relations to death and heritage.
His work is sometimes funny, sometimes confusing. It’s sometimes common or know to baffle us better and give us food for thought… Don’t miss it!
