Japonisms / Impressionisms, the exhibition by the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny

The Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny presents a wonderful exhibition entitled “Japonisms / Impressionisms”. Running from March 30 to July 15, 2018, it features 120 paintings and etchings, from the 1870’s to the dawn of the 20th century.

Everything started 150 years ago, back in 1868, with the opening of trade and diplomatic links with Japan. From this archipelago at world’s end come out of the blue visions that are dramatically different from the Occidental ones, especially shaking the universe of plastic arts up.

Eager of new forms, impressionist painters got inspired by more or less quality etchings coming from Japan, but with always inspiring composition and subjects.

The Musée des Impressionismes Giverny wishes to come back on this major iconographic and formal opening, through a chronologically set exhibition. Four chapters chant the exhibition: “Geishas”, “Collectors’ painting”, “Impressionist etchings” and “The code has changed”, exploring about forty years of impressionist and post-impressionist creation.

Don’t miss it!
