This is it! 2018 is Michael Jackson’s year since after stopping by London National Portrait Gallery between June and October 2018, an exhibition dedicated to him comes to Paris, France, and more precisely at the Grand Palais from November 23, 2018 to February 14, 2019. An event to celebrate his birthday, since he would have been 60 years old this year.
An exhibition entitled Michael Jackson: On The Wall focuses on "the cultural impact of Michael Jackson's character and work in the field of contemporary art from the 80's to nowadays". A title in tribute to his fifth solo album produced by Quincy Jones in 1979 and an angle that has never been worked in the exhibitions dedicated to the artist. And a godsend since the singer is included in "the most depicted celebrities in visual arts".
Throughout the exhibition, visitors can discover works of forty artists who have been touched and inspired by the man. Paintings, sculptures and other installations coming from public and private collections from all over the world: from David LaChapelle to Andy Warhol, without forgetting Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Rita Ackerman, Yan Pei-Ming, Dara Birnbaum, Greyson Perry, Keith Harirngs, Jonathan Horowitz, Hank Willis Thomas and even Rashid Johnson. They all have been influenced by the artist in their own art field.
Drawing, painting, sculpture, photographs or videos... As many materials used to highlight this art icon displayed at the GRand Palais in chronological order and enabling visitors to "follow his transformation, from a genius young man to a worlwide legend". An exhibition that will then tour Europe, stopping by Bonn in Germany and even Espoo in Finland.
