European Heritage Days 2018 at Paris Arab World Institute (AWI)

The Arab World Institute (AWI) set in Paris 5th arrondissement takes part in the 35th edition of European Heritage Days. This September on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16, 2018 meet with your family for a program full of visits and workshops.

A weekend to discover – and for free – the Arab World Institute in Paris. Free exhibition, funny workshops, diverse meetings. The program is wide and here it is below:

Saturday September 15:

  • Free access to the museum from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Exhibitions:
Presentation of the models from the Rabat-Cipango collection on the museum’s 4th level: models designed by designer Maurizio Galante in partnership with AMESIP (Association marocaine des enfants en situation précaire) [Moroccan Association for the Welfare of Children in Need].

  • Le Pinceau Ivre – Carte Blanche to Lassaâd Metoui, on the museum’s 7th level: the principle of this carte blanche is to have the creator dialog with the museum’s collections allowing him to tell about his past, his relationship, his perception of the Arab world. Lassaâd Metoui has his place because of his practice of a reinterpreted calligraphy as well as with words. His “Pinceau Ivre” [Drunk Brush] gives a shape and some colors to the language and embodies the sounds and rhythms of the orality.

  • Sabra et Chatila by Dia Al-Azzawi, on the museum’s 7th level: a remarkable work by Iraqi artist Dia Al Azzawi is to be discovered at the entrance of the AWI museum: the collection of the “Nous ne voyons que des cadavres, Massacres de Sabra et Chatila” [We Only See Cadavers, Massacre of Sabra and Chatila] boards (1983), as well as 16 silkscreen printings from the “Hymne du Corps. Poèmes dessinés pour Tell El-Zaatar” [Hymn of the Body. Poems drawn for Tell El-Zaatar] portfolio (1979).

  • Un oeil ouvert sur le Monde arabe [An eye open to the Arab World] on the museum’s 2nd level: for a year, to give you a vision of the Arab world, 240 artists create a work on the principle of the exquisite corpse. This Oeil ouvert sur le monde arabe, an evolutive world, will be revealed in three acts all along its process on May 15, September 18 and finally, the final revelation on November 6, 2018.
