The Grand Palais is devoting an exhibition to the Moon and its representations in art from April 3 to July 22, 2019. Starting with the Apollo 11 mission, this retrospective takes us on a journey through time to discover the unique vision artists and scientists had of this satellite of the Earth. Let's get on board with Galileo, Cassini and Jules Vernes, folks?

The Moon as you've never seen it... The Grand Palais is devoting an exhibition to the earth's satellite and its representations in art and the imaginary from April 3 to July 22, 2019. Entitled La Lune, du voyage réel aux voyages imaginaires, this retrospective takes visitors on an "expedition" to this star"through its real and imaginary dimensions", but also a journey through time with a presentation of artistic creations from antiquity to the present day.

Divided into five parts, the exhibition begins with the real voyage, the Apollo 11 mission of 1969, and then moves back in time to bring out "all the facets" of imaginary journeys to the moon, through the presentation of works mainly from Europe, but also from Africa and the Middle East. A retrospective that also gives pride of place to the sciences, with a display of instruments testifying to research on the satellite over the centuries.

Galileo, Thomas Harriot, Cassini... So many scientists who succeeded in "mapping" this imagined star, right up to the advent of photography, and whose work is on display here.

Astronomy enthusiasts can also discover works by Girodet,Antonio Canova (whose famous Sleeping Endymion is shown here) and the allegories of the star, deified in Antiquity as Thoth, Artemis, Selene, Sîn, Nefertoum, Chandra and Hecate. A golden opportunity to discover all the hidden and hidden sides of the Moon.

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
