From February 20 to August 26, 2019 the Fondation Louis Vuitton highlights its painting collection with the “A Vision for Painting” exhibition.

With the A Vision for Paintingexhibition, the Fondation Louis Vuitton presents a part of its contemporary art collections to the general public. All in all, 70 works are given pride of place in the rooms of the Fondation from February 20 to August 26, 2019 approaching the painting in a new fashion: figurative or abstract, expressive or kept at a distance.

These works have been created by 23 contemporary artists: Joan Mitchell, Alex Katz, Gerhard Richter, Ettore Spalletti, Yayoi Kusama, Jesús Rafael Soto show that painting keeps on renewing itself.

This display takes place at the same time as the Courtauld Collection and promotes 70 works from the Fondation Louis Vuitton collection asking about all the painting materials from the 1960’s to nowadays.

The tour starts with a major group of nine paintings by Joan Mitchell from 1976 to 1989, that have been never displayed here and that share the room with a big sculpture by Carl Andre!

Then, in another room, Jesús Rafael Soto, Daniel Buren share the success with a funnel by Pierre Soulages, getting all the light, and multiply all together the points of view about the artists.

As for the Galerie 10, it gathers abstract works of art celebrating the light, space and color. We find Dan Flavin’s work combining standard fluorescent tubes in compositions with introverted light and an impressive piece of wok by Gerhard Richter randomly scattering on 4,900 squares, hues coming from one of his previous paintings!

Surprising, the Infinity Mirror Room (Phalli’s Field) by Yayoi Kusama takes us to a huge ball pit, a room filled with items. Becoming an element of the work, the visitor happens to be in a hypnotic universe, a painting in the space spread indefinitely thanks to the mirror effects.

And on the western terrace, the Fondation Louis Vuitton presents the Pénétrable BBL Bleu by Jesús Rafael Soto (1999), a big installation like a pergola from which fall hundreds of blue and hanging PVC threads.

A wonderful display you want to see!
