From October 2, 2019 to February 24, 2020 Charlotte Perriand is given pride of place at Paris Fondation Louis Vuitton. You can discover the career of a committed woman, forerunning our time.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Charlotte Perriand’s death, Paris Fondation Louis Vuitton devotes a compelling exhibition to her from October 2, 2019 to February 24, 2020.

Architect and designer Charlotte Perriand was a pioneer of the modernity, in her works, she already asked about the place of women and nature in the society.

Thanks to the Fondation Louis Vuitton, you can visit the designer’s Ideal Apartment made of chrome steel in 1927, her “Refuge Tonneau” that is both a shelter and an invitation to travel designed in 1938 and her Maison de Thé [Tea House] (1993) made for the UNESCO.

Committed artist, Charlotte Perriand tries to answer accommodation issues and the ones relating to her time and denounces “Paris’ great misery”.

Along with Le Corbusier, René Herbst, Pierre Jeanneret, Louis Sognot she will offer a Maison du Jeune Homme [House for a Young Man] (1935), a confined space covering 16sqm where you can find all the tools used on a daily basis, including works of art, modern furniture and so on. Then, she’ll draw furniture for students’ rooms for the Maison du Mexique (1952) and the Maison de la Tunisie (1952) of the Cité Internationale Universitaire, a legacy given to Paris that you can still see today.

In the 10 rooms of the Fondation, you can walk through Charlotte Perriand’s universe in the tribute exhibition. To accompany these works, the Fondation Louis Vuitton has brought together an exceptional bunch of works by artists who knew Perriand including Fernand Léger, Pablo Picasso, Alexandre Calder, Joan Miro and even Henri Laurens.

A wonderful exhibition!

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
