Helena Rubinstein (1872-1965) as made it into History thanks to a cosmetic empire while she was starting from scratch. For her entire life, the business woman has purchased many works of art and created a collection including 400 works. It’s (most of) her collection that the Musée du Quai Branly presents from November 5, 2019 to September 27, 2020.
Became rich thanks to a moisturizing cream, Helena Rubinstein will quickly pay interest in arts while she knows nothing and lets herself be moved by the works she looks at. It would be the case with primitive arts and painting from the Ecole de Paris she chooses to fit her apartments in New York, London and Paris. All her life, Helena Rubinstein will be surrounded by artists such as Colette, Cocteau, Man Ray and Chagall without neglecting heart-stoppers brought from her travels all over the world.
As a museum for arts and civilizations from Africa, Asia, Oceania and Americas, the Musée du Quai Branly offers a focus on how Helena Rubinstein considered African art, this art that caught her attention in the early years of her business success in Europe. Through 60 pieces from her collection, this exhibition presents the artistic tastes of this woman who was interested in what others considered to be ugly and claimed that in addition to the classic and even neo-classic aesthetic influencing the Occident, notions of personality, strength, expressive intensity from other cultures of the world were just as meaningful.
A very beautiful collection highlighted nicely and allowing us to understand a part of the collector's life and her strong taste for African art. In other words, don't give any second thoughts and run to the Musée du Quai Branly to discover the life of this woman of the world and her unique collection, one of the most famous in today's art. Let's go, friends, shall we?
