Art is everywhere at La Défense! A huge open-air museum, La Défense offers 69 works of art to observe, including Le Pouce by César, Les Doubles lignes indéterminées by Bernar Venet, Le Bassin by Takis, Les Personnages Fantastiques by Joan Miro and L'Araignée Rouge by Alexander Calder. And for several summers now, we've been enjoying an extra dose of culture with Les Extatiques, an open-air exhibition at La Défense and La Seine Musicale.
This year, the exhibition runs from June 22 to October 1, 2023. Les Extatiques returns to La Défense and La Seine Musicale, much to our delight. The free open-air exhibition invites us to explore monumental works by international artists, based on the theme of the 4 elements: fire, air, water and earth.
Curator Fabrice Bousteau has selected 8 international artists forthis edition. Joëlle Allet, Amélie Bertrand, Jérémy Gobé, Philip Haas, Cornelia Konrads, Julien Salaud, Bob Verschueren and Erwin Wurm are the artists chosen for this unique artistic urban stroll. Each offers a singular vision on the theme of the four elements: air, fire, earth and water. This is a major summer event in the contemporary art landscape, co-organized by the Hauts-de-Seine department and Paris La Défense.
The exhibition offers a new perspective on urban spaces. For the first time, this 6th edition invites selected artists to exhibit an emblematic work simultaneously on both sites, creating an unprecedented dialogue between Paris La Défense and La Seine Musicale. A total of 13 installations make up this year's Les Extatiques.
Among the works to be discovered are monumental creations byAmélie Bertrand, who plays with shapes and colors to evoke the element of fire. Meanwhile, Jérémy Gobé explores the relationship between man and nature with installations inspired by the element of water.
Artist Philip Haas amazes us with his giant sculptures representing the element of air, while Cornelia Konrads invites us to reflect on our relationship with the earth with her ephemeral installations. Finally, the surrealist works of Bob Verschueren and Erwin Wurm take us by surprise, questioning our perception of the elements and the environment.
Les Extatiques 2023 is a unique opportunity to experience art in the open air and enjoy an immersive artistic experience. So don't hesitate to head for La Seine Musicale in Boulogne, which celebrates summer, while Paris La Défense and its monumental works honor the other seasons.
In conclusion, Les Extatiques 2023 is an experience not to be missed by lovers of art and urban strolls. From June 22 to October 1, let yourself be surprised and amazed by the works of international artists in exceptional settings at La Seine Musicale in Boulogne and Paris La Défense. With family or friends, let yourself be surprised, seduced and entertained by the unique creations of these renowned artists .
