Some may casually slip a few coins in their pockets, not fearing about the loss or thieves. Some are more cautious and hide their bills in their sock or their bras… for others, there are purses.
Understated object yet essential for the everyday life, purse exists for millenniums. This explains why the Monnaie de Paris devotes an exhibition to this item, returning on the story of the purse from the Antiquity to nowadays.
We discover bizarre samples telling us about the fashion of a time period or the relationship between people and money over the centuries.
The tour includes a little bit more than 300 pieces displayed through a story in 6 chapters. The purses selected are remarkable because of their different materials (some are made of scales, wood, ivory, mother-of-pearl, shell, leather…) and their origins (from France, Austria, England, Italy, Russia…).
Fashion and decorative art fans, save the date! This singular exhibition about a unique topic can only seduce you. And maybe, you might want to renew your old purse…
