With the Festival d’Automne in Paris, Centre Pompidou invites from November 25, 2019 to January 6, 2020, filmmaker Richard Linklater. For the first time, a retrospective about all his movies is displayed around one common theme: time.

For 30 years now, independent movie maker Richard Linklater depicts space and time in a very peculiar fashion, sometimes in a paradoxical way. So, from November 25, 2019 to January 6, 2020Centre Pompidou devotes him an exceptional retrospective that brings together for the first time all his movies to better grasp his thoughts and his approach of time.

When Slacker and Dazed and Confused are out in 1990 and 1993, both movies were critically and publicly acclaimed. This success can be explained by a seamless direction, and the exploit to represent in only one day of shooting the spirit of a generation. Without harsh caricature but fair, he manages to show a very realist imaginary. He gets the spirit of the current generation as it has to grow up, rejecting all the codes.

This animated and realistic painting is like a punch in the American cinematographic landscape. We already find and perfectly polished, one of the pillars of Linklater’s cinema: time.

He shoots his characters, evolving in time, we see them grow up and ages and generations meet, hate each other, fight. He films time in every human relationship.

How to become an adult? What are the rites to go from one age to another? How does love live with time? To get answers, Centre Pompidou invites the moviemaker an deploys 26 movies as well as a collection of photographs to better get the film director’s thoughts and work.

Time doesn’t only involve Richard Linklater’s movie in this retrospective. It’s also about how to get the intimate relationship between the film director and this phenomenon. How did time forge his work and how does he live with time? He answers all these questions with short movie “Where are you at, Richard Linklater?” He tells us about his history through founding events while reviewing the person he is.

On Saturday November 30, 2019, and save this date, the film director will honor us with his presence for an exceptional masterclass at 5 p.m.!

Don’t be late, it would be such a shame to miss such a great opportunity!
