The Atelier des Lumières presents the visual experience Monet, Renoir, Chagall, Journeys around the Mediterranean again from May 26 to December 31, 2020. Designed as a visual experience, this exhibition takes us to the heart of masterpieces by 20 artists including Renoir, Monet, Pissarro, Matisse, Signac, Derain, Vlaminck, Dufy, Chagall for a walk across the history of art in the 19th and 20th centuries, from impressionism to modernity via pointillism and fauvism.

Monet, Renoir, Chagall… Journeys around the Mediterranean, the immersive experience at the Atelier des Lumières in 2020 is a themed exhibition focusing on the “journeys around the Mediterranean”. This light and sound show lasts 40 minutes and takes us to 500 paintings by 20 artists in the 19th and 20th centuries for a beautiful panorama of the French painting.

In order to keep visitors safe, special tour modalities are planned:
Mandatory online booking for the tour time slot
Mandatory facemask all along the tour
Body temperature checked at the entrance
Hand sanitizer available
1-meter distance from other visitors
- Groups not allowed

For safety grounds, the number of visitors will be highly lowered.
The team will wear facemasks and front desks will be protected with glassed partitions.

Thanks to the unique AMIEX® process, the Atelier des Lumières manages to dematerialize works and broadcast them on 140 video-projectors and a spatial audio. We have already been fascinated by the exhibitions devoted to Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt and it’s now Monet, Renoir and Chagall’s Mediterranean that expects us from February 28 to December 31, 2020. Closed since mid-March because of the coronavirus epidemic, the exhibition has been welcoming visitors again from May 26, 2020.

Why this theme? The ocean and the Mediterranean seduce artists in the 19th century with the rise of balneology. They leave their studios and gather by the sea, from Collioure to Saint-Tropez and offer a new conception of light and color.

For 40 minutes then, we go through the greatest painting movements in the 19th and 20th centuries: impressionism with Monet and Renoir, pointillism with Signac and Cross, fauvism with Derain, Vlaminck… without forgetting Matisse. Over 500 paintings and details are brought together on the occasion, in a giant size since they’re screened and move on the building's 10m high walls.

We already picture ourselves bathing in Antibes painted by Claude Monet (1888) and Estague by Auguste Renoir (1882), the Baie des Anges de Nice by Raoul Dufy and Saint Tropez by Paul Signac (1899) and we can already imagine the soundtrack lulling us with waves and children’s laughter.

Throughout this experience, several focuses are available, one on Bonnard and Dufy, another on Chagall, as well as Matisse’s colorful universe. This musical and visual creation always provides a living painting with bright and strong colors, a beautiful experience that is perfect to introduce children to art.

After this experience, the Atelier des Lumières provides a dive into Yves Klein’s infinite blue. This very special color that is said not to fade with time.
