Every corner of the city of Paris is shown in photographs taken by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Eugène Atget. The “Henri Cartier-Bresson - Revoir Paris” exhibition was planned for the reopening of the musée Carnavalet. The museum dedicated to the history of Paris offers a meeting of minds on the city through the eyes of two great photographers from the 20th century. Meet from June 15 to October 31, 2021 to discover this never-before-seen exhibition!
Cartier-Bresson and his photographs have accompanied the life of Parisians. In one click, he manages to shoot major moments in History and small details of the every day life. Before him, Eugène Atget has immortalized each street of Paris, collecting a great and very extended archive resource for artists from his time. Together, they create a new historic and poetic look on the French capital.
For these two exhibitions displayed at the same time, the musée Carnavalet shines a light on original prints by Atget and Cartier-Bresson, coming from their own collections. The Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson also lends a few original prints, as well as publications and audio-visual recordings.
Four years of architectural and museographic renovations forced the museum to close to the public. We are looking forward to discovering the new layout of the Musée Carnavalet. Insiders will gladly rediscover the permanent exhibitions displayed in a new tour. Paris is unveiled through paintings, photographs, sculptures, furniture… from the Prehistory to nowadays. The 4,000 works of art displayed in this historic building in the Marais only expect to be admired again.
