The Musée du Luxembourg devotes an exhibition to Man Ray and fashion photography from September 23, 2020 to January 17, 2021. An artist already highlighted by the Grand Palais for a retrospective in 1998 and the Pinacothèque in 2008. Initially planned for early April, we will have to be patient a little longer to be finally able to discover the wonders this exhibition contains...

Man Ray in a new light… This is what Paris Musée du Luxembourg offers from September 23, 2020 to January 17, 2021 with a compelling retrospective devoted to the photographer called Man Ray et la Mode [Man Ray and Fashion]. An artist who already has had many exhibitions, especially in 1998 at the Grand Palais and even in 2008 at the Pinacothèque in Paris. Before heading to Paris, the exhibition will stop by Marseilles, at the Musée Cantini and the Château Borelli from November 2019 to March 2020.

Why a new light? Because fashion is one of Man Ray’s career aspect that has never been exploited in France for an exhibition. A true new vision of the artist who remain rooted to this modernity that is so characteristic of his work. More than a photographer, Man Ray is “one of the protagonists of the Parisian art life in the interwar period and of surrealism” who has helped “the empowerment of fashion photography”.

The exhibition offers visitors first “the permanent enrichment that exists between ‘the art for the art’ and the productions subjected to an order”. And at the heart of this enrichment, Larmes, an iconic picture of Man Ray, an example of the art production at the heart of advertising orders since at the beginning, this photograph was an ad for a mascara brand. Original prints, as well as large size contemporary prints displayed next to Maisons De Couture models for which he worked. The occasion to rediscover one of the most emblematic photographer of his time… Let’s go, friends, shall we?
