The Marquise Arconati Visconti stood out because of her generosity towards museums and French teaching establishments. All in all, about a hundred pieces and a few archive documents are highlighted. These objects tell about the life of their owner, from 1840 to 1923 and are intimately linked to the history of the Musée des Arts Déco owning its existence to benefactors such as the Marquise Arconati Visconti. The exhibition is as intimate as universal: the number and diversity of works gives an overview of art deco items even tough they all have experienced a special life.

The marquise’s interest in arts pushed her to collect many works from different time eras and cultures. The exhibition displayed by the  Musée des Arts Déco is all the more captivating that is presents objects from the Middle-Ages, the Renaissance, the French Revolution and the 19th century. The exhibition doesn’t stop to the French boundaries. The Marquise Arconati Visconti also donated many works coming from Asian and Islamic arts.

The marquise’s actions have touched a lot of organizations. To make this exhibition come to life, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs has been supported by the  chancellerie des universités in Paris, the Louvre and even the musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon who have been helped by the benefactor.

And while you’re at the Musée des Arts Déco, enjoy the other exhibitions: the Marche et Démarche and Moderne Maharajah exhibitions that will be running respectively until February 23 and January 12, 2020.
