The Musée de l'Orangerie brings together the painters Chaïm Soutine and Willem de Kooning in an exhibition postponed until 2021. From September 14, 2021 to January 10, 2022, explore the works of these two expressionist artists and rediscover the work of these great post-war painters.

The Musée de l'Orangerie presents a groundbreaking exhibition linking the painters Chaïm Soutine and Willem de Kooning. This face-to-face encounter allows us to explore the origins and artistic styles of some fifty works, presented from September 14, 2021 to January 10, 2022. Come and discover the secrets of these great post-war artists.

Over 50 paintings present Soutine, the " cursed artist " and " prophet " of a new genre that combines abstractexpressionism and figurative art. Chaïm Soutine soon became an important source of inspiration for Willem de Kooning. The American artist captured the tension between figurative and abstract art that characterizes Soutine's work. The paintings in this exhibition reveal the research, experimentation and reflection that led to the creation of a new artistic genre.

Theexhibition also highlights key moments in the meeting between the two artists. Although they never got to know each other, de Kooning experienced a real revelation when he discovered Chaïm Soutine's paintings at various exhibitions in the United States. A small page in thehistory of art is told, to satisfy our curiosity and shine at the next social gathering.

In this series of portraits, we see a silent dialogue developing between the two painters. Although very different, these mesmerizingly stylized works seem to answer and echo each other. The colors - dark in one, brilliant in the other - the deformed faces, the looks, all draw us in and challenge us. Some of the paintings, with their contrasting colors, subject matter andemotion, grab us and hold us fast.

So don't hesitate to make a date with the Musée de l'Orangerie to visit the Soutine/de Kooning exhibition. A bit ofhistory and a lot ofart, you'll find plenty to take you on a stroll through some great paintings.
