The Petit Palais presents a retrospective on Ambroise Vollard, promoter of the greatest painters of his time. This exhibition, on view from May 19 to August 29, 2021, offers an overview of the art scene from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th. Come and admire paintings by Cézanne, Picasso and Gauguin in this never-before-seen retrospective.

The Petit Palais spotlights Ambroise Vollard in an exhibition entitled Édition limitée, Vollard, Petiet et l'estampe de maître. This retrospective takes us behind the scenes of the art market, between the print trade and the promotion of the great masters of the period. Enter the world of Ambroise Vollard, a world focused on art, from May 19 to August 20, 2021.

The exhibition at the Petit Palais reveals the daily life of Ambroise Vollard. A key figure in the art market from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th, Vollard was particularly fond of publishingprints and rare books. Here we find an exceptional collection of prints, bequeathed to the museum by Ambroise Vollard himself, or by his heirs.

To finance his passion, the art dealer was able to negotiate and resell canvases by the great masters, paintings by artists he spotted at the start of their careers and promoted: Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, George-Henri Rouault... Their works enliven the exhibition and offer a more complete vision of Ambroise Vollard's professional life.

Part of this retrospective is also devoted to Henri Petiet, a dealer who bought out the Vollard gallery. The man was also known as a talent scout: he supported sculptor Aristide Maillol, painters Marie Laurencin and Jean-Émile Laboureur... This section completes theexhibition, offering us even more works to appreciate and stories to know.

The Limited Edition retrospective offers an interesting insight into the world of art dealers, between negotiations, passion and the discovery of future artistic masterpieces. An exhibition not to be missed, to discover new perspectives and rediscover paintings we all know and love. And don't forget to visit the permanent collections at the Petit Palais: admission is free!
