Art and fashion lovers are invited to the Lafayette Anticipations Foundation to discover an exhibition based on the works of Martin Margiela from October 20, 2021 to January 2, 2022. The exhibition focuses on Martin Margiela as an artist, rather than as a fashion designer.

Fashionistas and art lovers of all stripes, get your diaries ready! The Lafayette Anticipations Foundation invites you to discover Martin Margiela in a new light through an exhibition dedicated to the Belgian designer, from October 20, 2021 to January 2 2022. This retrospective focuses more on the artist than the designer, with a collection of colorful works, some of which were produced by the Foundation.

This is the very first time the couturier has exhibited his work in a cultural institution, demonstrating that he is also an artist at heart. Drawings, sculptures, collages... These are just some of the media that have influenced his haute couture creations, and are presented here for a unique insight into his world. And a theme dear to her heart: her obsession with"discreet beings, neglected objects, places and events that have gone unnoticed". An exhibition"conceived as a total work of art" that pursues his obsession with"transformation".

A fashion designer with an early interest in art. Martin Margiela began his career as a couturier in the 80s, when he became assistant to Jean-Paul Gaultier in 1984. He entered a strict world after graduating from theRoyal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1980. But this haute couture genius wanted more, and in 1988, he founded his own house. A house he left in 2008 to devote himself exclusively to artistic creations, far from fashion. And these creations are to be found in this exhibition.

An opportunity to discover Margiela 's work and see it"as a total artistic approach". Shall we go, friends?
