The Musée Jacquemart-André is a beautiful, little-known museum in Paris. It holds many treasures, including Rembrandt's Pilgrims to Emmaus, Sandro Botticelli's Virgin and Child and Donatello's Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, all collected by Nélie Jacquemart and her husband Edouard André in the 19th century.

The Musée Jacquemart-André is a haven of peace hidden away on Boulevard Haussmann, in the village of Monceau. You have to dare to step through the gate, along a passageway and into a store to enter the former estate of Nélie Jacquemart and Edouard André, heir to a family of bankers and a great art lover.

Together, they had built up a fine art collection, with paintings, sculptures, tapestries and objets d'art from the 18th century, but also Italian paintings, from primitive art to the Renaissance, Nélie's whim.

Please note: the Musée Jacquemart-André is closed for renovation until September 1, 2024.

To showcase this collection, they decided to build a private mansion, designed in seven years by Henri Parent on a very classical, perfectly symmetrical model. Even back then, their home was used to display their art collection at lavish parties and social gatherings.

Masterpieces by Bellini, Botticelli, Donatello, Uccello, Nattier, Vigée-Lebrun, Chardin, Fragonard and David are on display in the grand salons, deliberately left as they were to reflect the Jacquemart-André family's social life.

The Salon des Peintures features a magnificent series of paintings. The rotunda-shaped Grand Salon unveils a series of busts by the greatest sculptors of the 18th century. The Salon de Musique was transformed into a ballroom on concert evenings. An area of seven small rooms serves as a venue for the two or three temporary exhibitions presented each year.

Above all, the Musée Jacquemart-André wanted to take the couple's private apartments, with Madame's bedroom, Monsieur's antechamber and Monsieur's bedroom and en suite bathroom, on a journey back in time. Even the dining room, with its ceiling painted by Tiepolo and its tapestries, offers a glimpse into the life of the collector couple.

Today, you can enjoy lunch or a snack in the tea room, with its unobstructed view over the courtyard. A beautiful jewel to see in Paris!
