Another historic monument finally reopens its doors! The Château de Rambouillet has announced its reopening after several months without visitors, due to the coronavirus. Since May 19, 2021, you can once again discover this magnificent 15th-century château.
The château has kept its original layout, inaugurated in June 2020, to comply with current health regulations. Anne-Claire Nayrolles, head of the educational and cultural service, explained to ourActu.fr colleagues: " In a historic monument, it's not easy to implement the measures behind it. That's why we had to completely rethink the tour circuit, to avoid crossing paths and to banish all backtracking. This required a great deal of thought."
She continues: "People can no longer enter and leave through the same door as before. So we decided to move the entrance to the château to the garden side. The public will start their visit in the Marble Room, then follow the tour in a one-way direction. They will then exit through the château's courtyard, on the same side as the boutique. Also at the heart of the visit is a reorganization of spaces to avoid contact with anything. Digital and touch-screen tablets have been removed, to avoid any handling that might increase the chances of contamination.
As far as sanitary measures are concerned, everything has been done to ensure the safety of visitors: masks must be worn, hydro-alcoholic gel is available, online reservations are compulsory... So you can enjoy your visit in the best possible conditions. Please note, however, that some rooms remain closed for the time being: the Chaumière aux coquillages remains out of reach for the time being.
To console ourselves, we turn to the Laiterie, which hosts the exhibition "Vivre à l'antique, de Marie-Antoinette à Napoléon 1er". Discover some fifty works that highlight the passion of 18th-century French people for antique art, furniture and decoration.
The exhibition is accompanied by several conferences and a family show performed by the"Fool's Cap Théâtre" company.
