Attention history buffs! The Musée de l'Armée is dedicating an exhibition to photojournalist Philippe de Poulpiquet, entitled Invalides : Mémoires de Guerres, from September 19, 2020 to February 28, 2021. The exhibition remains closed until further notice.

Calling all lovers of fine photography! The Musée de l'Armée invites you to discover an exhibition based on the work of photojournalist Philippe de Poulpiquet, entitled Invalides: Mémoires de Guerres, originally scheduled to run from September 19, 2020 to January 3, 2021. But reconfiguration has taken its toll, and the museum has had to revise its plans... While the exhibition has been extended until February 28, 2021, the museum remains closed until further notice.

The exhibition focuses on the museum's history as a hospital and boarding center "where veterans, military personnel wounded in operations abroad or in active service, civilian victims of war or terrorism, as well as wounded civilians, are received and cared for".

At the museum's request, Philippe de Poulpiquet followed the daily lives of the doctors, nurses, orderlies and other medical staff working there between summer 2017 and summer 2018. Constructed as a photographic chronicle, the exhibition"follows the people who bring this place to life: veterans wounded in combat during the wars of decolonization or in Afghanistan, civilian victims of attacks, hospital staff, military authority...". The idea is also to tell the story of these men and women who have become"the battered flesh of a country scarred by the wounds of war".

In all, some 75 photographs are presented to visitors, organized in two distinct routes to be discovered within the Hôtel des Invalides:

  • The first, inside, features"original prints produced in 2019 for the Hôtel des Invalides photography collections, in the rooms of the Musée de l'Armée's Armes et Armures Anciennes exhibition".
  • A second, outdoor, free-access trail will feature"enlarged reproductions, printed and mounted on special panels, in the northern moat alongside the Hôtel's main entrance, on the esplanade des Invalides side and on the railings along boulevard des Invalides".

An opportunity to discover the professions of theHôtel des Invalides and to pay tribute to all the nursing staff on the front line during the coronavirus crisis... Shall we go, folks?
