It is closed for a while but will return soon and brand-new: the museum of the Cinémathèque becomes the Musée Méliès starting from January 13, 2021! Big changes are planned for a better tour experience and the museum’s cinematographic collections are wonderfully promoted.
2021 is the year of all-things changing for the Cinémathèque. The museum changes and the tour will be now completed with the famous and historic director: George Méliès. This genius walks with us through a fantastic journey, a travel in time, to walk all the way up to the very beginning of the history of cinema.
Among the gems displayed, tricking art items: prestidigitation and magic props, phantasmagory, magic lamps, optical toys… As well as cameras such as Edison’s Kinetoscope, Lumière’s Cinematographer, and George Méliès’ first camera and projector.
We will also find countless drawings: by Méliès of course, as well as from magical movies such as Beauty and the Beast, Donkey Skin, and even unmissable movies about travels: Woman in the Moon, Star Wars, Alien: Resurrection… And to fascinate cinephiles even more, the museum displays uncommon items: the selenite from A Trip to the Moon, the robot from Metropolis, Mrs. Bates’ skull from Psycho… Last but not least, you can admire famous costumes such as Méliès’ magician cloak. All this along with abstracts from movies and devices to handle the different cameras.
We are looking forward to discover this Musée Méliès 2.0 and to dream about adventures with all these movie gems!
