Following the implementation of a new lockdown, the Fondation Claude Monet-Giverny announces the closure of the house and gardens starting October 29, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. E-tickets for October 30 and November 1, 2020 will be refunded. The foundation expects us all for the soon reopening on April 1, 2021.

The Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny welcomes the Terra Foundation for American Art from September 12, 2020 to January 3, 2021 along with 90 landscapes from their collections, for an exceptional exhibition. The “L'Atelier de la nature, 1860-1910. Invitation à la collection Terra” exhibition unveils impressionist masterpieces created by American painters. Works loaned by the Musée d’Orsay, the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Société de Géographie also complete this very colorful exhibition.

The American artists have changed their relationship to nature between 1860 and 1920 a lot. These painters went from the description to the thorough imitation of landscapes laying in front of them, to the subjective expression of nature. From the big American spaces, they turned to small scenes, to intimate shows and daily scenes the environment provides.

In this exhibition in five acts, we discover all the steps of this artistic evolution, each including its own members and great masters. L’Atelier de la nature is also about three major themes: artistic influence, national identity, and men’s relationship with nature.

Even though most landscapes displayed here show a people in harmony with nature, others look like a warning about the possibility of being lost and the impact of people settling in, of tourism and urbanization. Issues that still go on today.

In the works displayed, we notice a rich range of colors, from the soft hues and pastels of the crack of dawn to the vibrant colors of wild nature. Each artist has their own style and their own way of representing landscapes in front of them.

The countless paintings, engravings and photographs used for the exhibition are mostly kept in the USA, in Chicago. Do not miss this chance to discover magnificent works created by American artists. Head to the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny to enjoy one of the greatest exhibitions of September!
