A fine tribute to a most original artist... The Centre Pompidou is dedicating a special day to the poet John Giorno, who passed away in October 2019, on Saturday, September 19, 2020. Entitled The John Giorno Poetry Day, this international event is the brainchild of writers Anne-James Chaton and Jean-Michel Espitailler, in collaboration with several cultural institutions around the world, including the Festival Actoral, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Maison de la Poésie in Nantes and the Haus des Kultur der Welt in Berlin.
A tribute is also being held as part of the Extra! festival, taking place at the Centre Pompidou from September 11 to 17, 2020, and a special day is to bring together various artists, historians and art critics close to the poet, including Ugo Rondinone, Anne Waldman, Charles Pennequin, Joël Hubaut and Thurston Moore. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., an eclectic program awaits you, with video projections(Sleep by Andy Warhol, Bardo pour John Giorno by Laure Limongi, etc.), performance readings, round-table discussions, concerts and exhibition tours.
A great opportunity to pay tribute to an artist, discover his most contemporary work and, who knows, maybe even discover a passion for poetry and its unlikely encounter with modern art... Shall we drop in, folks?
