“Bid for the Louvre”. The Louvre has called for help. The Louvre has contacted several trendy artists to ask them for help. And many of them answered the call to offer a piece of art of their choice. All in all, a dozen works to discover for an online Christie’s auction sale from December 1 to 15, 2020. The catalog of works will be released in the next few days, but Johan Creten, Candida Höfer, Eva Jospin, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Pierre Soulages and Xavier Veilhan are already named as part of the generous donors.
The money raised will be used to fund solidarity and educative projects supervised by the Louvre and works of Studio, a new space devoted to families’, disabled people’s and people in a precarious situation’s artistic and cultural education starting Fall 2021.
The Louvre CEO Jean-Luc Martinez is delighted: “artists and Maisons close to the Louvre instantly answered our call and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. They know educative and social projects are at the heart of the Louvre’s action. This pandemic period hitting first the most fragile populations make them even more necessary. […] Generosity will be directly provided to solidarity”.
To these works are added crazy experiences such as visiting the roofs of the Louvre with street-artist JR (who already created a temporary work of art for the 30th anniversary of the Pyramid), the participation to the yearly examination of Mona Lisa during which the painting is taken out of its glass box, or even customization services.
A wonderful way to take part in the Louvre’s actions and a very beautiful Christmas present to get!
