For the first time, Georgia O’Keeffe’s work is gathered for a retrospective in France. This is an event you do not want to miss! Head to Centre Pompidou in Paris from September 8 to December 6, 2021 to discover the paintings of this American abstraction leader.

Make the most of the first Georgia O’Keeffe retrospective in France to five into colorful landscapes and giant flowers painted by this major north-American artist from the 20th century. Meet from September 8 to December 6, 2021 at Centre Pompidou for a very poetic journey across the debuts of abstract painting.

The exhibition unveils a hundred paintings, drawings and photographs, guiding us through the artist’s career. Born in 1887 and gone at 98, Georgia O’Keeffe has crossed the greatest aesthetic revolutions of the 20th century.

After being part of the advent of American modernism in the 1920’s, in the 1930’s she advocates for a strong American art refusing the ambient puritanism, and takes part in the art research impacting the country then. In the 1960’s, she becomes one of the pioneers of “hard edgeabstract painting (where transitions between colors are clear and solid).

Spending the last years of her life in New Mexico, she throws herself in meditative contemplation of desert, and creates fantastic landscapes filled with carcasses of animals, flowers, and exotic plants painted in surreal shapes and colors.

Of course, there is her passionate relationship with gallery owner and photographer Alfred Stieglitz who feeds her art and opens the way to magnificent shots of her by Stieglitz. It will be undoubtedly shared in the exhibition. Sensuality and spirituality in her work are one same sacred movement, one symbolical vision of the world.
