Asia Now 2022, the exhibition in partnership with Asia Now at the Musée Guimet

Modern Asian art in dialogue with older works from the Musée Guimet. On the occasion ofAsia Now 2022, the Musée Guimet invites you to discover several exhibitions featuring works by artists Bae Bien-U, Anne de Henning, Wifredo Lam and Ram Rahman from October 19, 2022 to January 23, 2023. Several smaller exhibitions presented within the museum's permanent collection, in various exhibition spaces, including the Galerie Riboud.

The program includes three photographic exhibitions, as well as an exhibition of artistic ceramics. On the second floor, in the Galerie Ribaud, the museum invites you to discover the Street Smart series, an exhibition by Indian photographer Ram Rahman, whose works resonate with those of the Indian arts department. In his images, the artist captures"the vibrant visual culture of Indian streets, with its curious juxtapositions of advertisements, movie posters, political slogans, religious icons and graffiti that abound in the streets". Resembling collages, these black-and-white shots are intended to be"the backdrops against which daily life unfolds in this street theater, capturing the chaos, irony and humor of Indian public culture".

We then move on to the second floor, with several photographs by Korean artist Bae Bien-U, presented within the museum's permanent collections, offering here works"with a universal language" and reflecting"the Korean people's preoccupation with living in harmony with nature". The images capture"the movement of the trees as if they were on the move towards an elsewhere that the framing doesn't let us guess". Then there's Witness to History in the Making, an exhibition by one of the pioneers of war photojournalism, Anne de Henning, who captured on glossy paper the story, with a capital H, of the creation of Bangladesh.

And we end with an exhibition of ceramic works by Wifredo Lam, originally known for his proximity to several avant-garde artistic movements. A total of 15 ceramic works are on show,"an intimate confession of his childhood spent in Cuba's Chinese community, in dialogue with a selection of Chinese porcelain from his own collections". Ceramics worked in their entirety, giving relief to his art with sgraffito decorations.

A fine edition, then, to be discovered without further delay!
