But what is this huge bamboo liner in La Défense? Aqua Matter is a never-before-seen 1,000sqm exhibition mixing photographs, architecture and music in an exceptional setting, the Amazonian wood pavilion by Simón Vélez.
Colombian architect Simón Vélez provides a variation of complex bamboo structures. He practices architecture standing for its rooting in indigenous materials coming from the wilderness and transformed as little as possible.
On the menu, a sensory and spiritual experience. As a matter of fact, imagine soft light, musical and sound background written by François-Bernard Mâche, and tropical mist taking you to a serene atmosphere. A unique and exceptional setting leading you to wonder about and raise awareness about today’s and tomorrow’s environmental issues.
The exhibition present photographs by artist Sebastião Salgado unveiling his look on water. Source of life, and threatened source, water tending to grow rarer as global warming is escalating. This fragility has been noticed decades ago, everywhere in the world, from Amazonia to Iceland to Arctic or even Sahara, Sebastião Salgado’s work opens your eyes on this very reality.
Through this exhibition, the artist delivers a relaxed space likely for reflection and awareness about the necessity to protect our global resources of water.
Between the pavilion that is an ode to the fragility of water and artist Sebastião Salgado’s work, the mix being ideal. The Aqua Matter exhibition has been created to travel from city to city and raise awareness.
