For its reopening to the public on April 2, and after years of renovations, the musée départemental Albert-Kahn proposes a temporary exhibition, until November 13, called “Autour du Monde, la traverse des images, d’Albert Kahn à Curiosity”.

After years of renovations, the musée départemental Albert-Kahn reopens on Saturday April 2, 2022! Its inaugural exhibition, “Autour du Monde, la traverse des images, d’Albert Kahn à Curiosity” focuses on representations of travel from the 20th century to nowadays, and take visitors along an immersive tour until November 13, 2022.

Albert Kahn – the philanthropist banker after whom the flagship museum in Boulogne-Billancourt was named – documented his journey around the world between 1908 and 1909. And this is what marked the beginning of the project of the world’s visual documentation the man put in the very core of his life. Back from his journey, he starts the “Archives de la Planète” or the Planet’s Archives, the historic core of the museum’s collections.

The temporary exhibition returns on this foundation, taking visitors to a sensitive crossing through the different representations of the traveler’s figures and travel through photography and films from 1908 to nowadays. 4,000 stereoscopic boards and 2,000m of films are displayed, telling the philanthropist and his young driver-mechanic Albert Dutertre’s first journey – the latter having shot the pictures.

Among the 28 countries visited, travelers met new practices and new pictures, never seen before. This exhibition around the world, covering 570sqm, enables to represent Albert Kahn’s discoveries, as if you were there, thanks to little-known pictures, some of them being never seen before, coming from the museum’s collections and from partnering institutions.

On April 2 and 3, for the reopening of the museum, the temporary and permanent exhibitions are free of charge for all! And until May 5, for one ticket purchased, you will get one ticket free thanks to the reopening’s extended offer. Then, starting from May 5, allow €8 to discover the museum entirely.
