Known as Paris fashion museum, the Palais Galliera devotes a promising exhibition to a major icon: Frida Kahlo. This retrospective – in partnership with the Museo Frida Kahlo – is to unveil over 200 pieces coming straight from the artist’s childhood home, the Casa Azul in Mexico. Meet from September 15, 2022, to March 5, 2023.

After Dalida, Chanel and Jeanne Lanvin, the Palais Galliera displays a new exhibition devoted to an icon. This time, the fashion museum takes us to Mexico to tell us more about Frida Kahlo. From September 15, 2022, to March 5, 2023, passionate and curious are invited to discover “Frida Kahlo, au-delà des apparences”, a retrospective co-curated with the Museo Frida Kahlo.

Easily recognizable with her unibrow, Frida Kahlo is a major painter artist whose inspiring story marked minds. Born in 1907, in her parents’ house, the Casa Azul in Mexico, she catches polio at age 6, and ends up with her right leg atrophied. At 17, she got in a bus accident, severely injuring her. Following this challenge, she awakens her artist soul: “I am not dead and I have a reason to live. That reason is painting”, she is said to have claimed.

This is how her artist career debuted, and the Frida Kahlo legend started to build up. In addition to her work, her commitment to the feminist cause, her relationship with her handicap, and her strong Mexican identity propelled her to the rank of icon. The Palais Galliera exhibition is to immerge us in the universe of this committed artist through over 200 pieces from the Casa Azul, the home she was born and died in, and where she still lies. Another exhibition within the exhibition is also to unveil Frida Kahlo’s influence on the world of fashion.

Here is an exhibition we are looking forward to!
