La Maison Populaire de Montreuil invites you to discover artist Julia Scher's latest exhibition, Wonderland, from May 25 to July 15, 2022.

A curious plunge into childhood, at the heart of an unprecedented vision of Wonderland... From May 25 to July 15, 2022, the Maison Populaire in Montreuil is devoting an exhibition to the American artist Julia Scher, Wonderland.

The second part of The Artificial Kids exhibition cycle, this retrospective features a multimedia environment: a small, child-sized control desk, surrounded by distorting mirrors, all bathed in a violet lighting ambience to the sound of a voice warning the audience. "There are cameras filming you [...] Be careful. Your size may change", can be heard inside. Welcome to Wonderland!

The first cycle begins in 1996 with photos of seven children in school uniform: Lena, Grace, Andy, Andre, Brandon, Jodi and Zoë. Some brandish truncheons, others cameras... The installation evolves over the years, with new photos. The second cycle, presented here, is a kind of consequence of this series of photos: a child-sized world where children watch over adults,"forced to see themselves regress in the reflection of mirrors".

A multimedia exhibition, specially designed for children, which also plays on the context of the Maison Populaire, since the majority of its members are children,"encouraged to leave their parents on the doorstep". It also parodies"adults' relationship to protection, threats and their own infantilization in contexts of surveillance".

A must-see for the whole family, for art-lovers of all ages!
