On Saturday May 18, 2019 the museum takes part in Museums Night, a beautiful opportunity to rediscover the Gallery of Evolution for free!

On Museums Night 2019 how about visiting the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle’s Gallery of Evolution? It features over 7,000 stuffed animals giving a picture of the species visible across the world including some which have disappeared or are endangered.

In a wonderful building dating from 1877, we’re welcomed by the skeletons of a whale and a blue whale, before walking around the world of mammals with a giraffe, an elephant, zebras and other hyenas that live in the museum’s alleys.

These naturalized animals are – well, some of them – already over 300 years old. They have been brought back from French expeditions (from 1762 to the 19th century) to analyze vertebrates from all over the world!

Immersed in a place out of the city, we rediscover the size of the animal reign in the Gallery of Evolution. We encounter some 7000 animals, we observe their look, sometimes fixed, sometimes sad, sometimes aggressive.
