From October 19 to 22, 2017, the fifth edition of the Outsider Art Fair is setting up at Paris Hotel du Duc at the same time as FIAC (International Art Fair). This young fair, set for over 20 years in New York, promotes the best of art brut and outsider art.

The Outsider Art Fair thinks on a grand scale: it invites about thirty international galleries to take over the Hotel du Duc, a wide exhibition area covering 1000 sqm near the Opera Garnier.

Who says art brut says Halle Saint Pierre and it’s very logic that it’s here we can find the biggest Parisian museum dedicated to naïve art through a non-residential bookshop with a selection of books, catalogs and reviews as well a new works available for the first time in France.

A program of talks and meetings complete this artistic panorama:

  • Talk between Daniel Cordier, Anne Sauvagnargues and Valérie Rousseau
Saturday October 21, 2017 at noon
Hôtel Drouot (9 rue Drouot, 75009 Paris)

In conjunction with our Curated Space presentation Daniel Cordier and Outsider Art presented from October 19 to 22, 2017 at the Outsider Art Fair Paris (Hotel du Duc), you are cordially invited to attend a panel discussion featuring Daniel Cordier and his journey as a gallery owner and collector. He will be joined by Antoine Gentil, curator of the exhibition, as well as Anne Sauvagnargues (philosopher, teacher and artist represented in the Daniel Cordier donation) and Valérie Rousseau (curator, American Folk Art Museum, New York).

  • Karel Appel and the Influence of Outsider Art
    Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM
    Hotel Drouot

One of the founding members of the post-war art movement Cobra, Karel Appel first discovered Jean Dubuffet's work and his collection of Outsider Art in 1947 at Galerie Rene Drouin in Paris. In 1950, Appel revisited the city to see the groundbreaking International Exhibition of Psychopathological Art, which featured more than 2000 works by patients deemed mentally ill. Appropriating the accompanying brochure, which featured descriptions of the patients' pathologies but no illustrations, Appel covered the pages with his own spontaneous drawings and collages, and he kept the transformed catalogue, which he titled Psychopathological Notebook, with him for the rest of his life. Taking this history as a point of departure, this panel discussion examines the influence of Outsider Art on Appel’s work and continuing impact of Cobra and Outsider Art on contemporary artists.

So, to discover what alternative art has best, come visit the fifth edition of the Outsider Art Fair!
