In the Seine-et-Marne département, the Château de Champs-sur-Marne is less well known than Vaux-le-Vicomte or Fontainebleau. A testament to its rich history, Champs-sur-Marne is best known for its vast 85-hectare wooded park, which is open all year round!

The Château de Champs-sur-Marne is home to a host of illustrious guests: from Voltaire to the Princesse de Conti (illegitimate daughter of Louis XIV and Mademoiselle de la Vallière), not forgetting the Marquise de Pompadour... Built between 1703 and 1707, the Château de Champs-sur-Marne was built for two of Louis XIV's financiers, Charles Renouard de la Touanne and Paul Poisson de Bourvallais. Passed from hand to hand over the centuries, the château was finally bequeathed to the French state in 1935. Among the château's must-see rooms are the Chinese drawing room, featuring chinoiseries painted by Christophe Huet, and the children's dining room.

In addition to its building, the Château de Champs-sur-Marne is famous for its immense 85-hectare French garden. With its farms, greenhouses, orchards, vegetable gardens and forests... The château's park is well worth spending a good part of the day in, especially as if you visit it on your own (without the château, that is), it's free for all!

The château is open daily from June 1 to September 30 (10am to 12:15pm and 1:30pm to 6pm) and from October 1 to May 31 (10am to 12:15pm and 1:30pm to 5pm), except Tuesdays, and between February 19 and March 24. The monument may close for various events, so the château advises you to check in advance on its website whether it's open on the day you plan to visit. Admission is €9 full price, €7.50 concessions, and free for European Union citizens under 18 and under 25, as well as every first Sunday of the month.

The château has adapted visitor itineraries for people with reduced mobility, as well as facilities to assist visitors with disabilities. To get there by public transport, take the RER A (Noisiel stop, then walk for 20 minutes, or take bus no. 220, Mairie de Champs or Maison de retraite stops).
