As part of European Heritage Days 2021 in Yvelines, the Domaine de Madame Elisabeth – set a bit further than one kilometer from the Palace of Versailles – expects you on Saturday September 18 and Sunday 19, 2021 to make you discover the house and the estate.
First, enjoy a self-guided tour of the 7-hectare park of the estate, a romantic, English formal garden in the heart of Versailles.
Then, continue your discovery of the Domaine de Madame Elisabeth with a guided tour of Madame Elisabeth’s house, all afternoon long. Given by king Louis XVI to his sister, Madame Elisabeth, for her 19th birthday, the estate includes a beautiful house and a magnificent landscaped garden. She spent happy days until the French Revolution and her tragic end. Today, the house and park are owned by the Conseil Départemental des Yvelines.
Designed and built in the second half of the 18th century for the prince and princess of Rohan-Guéméné, the Domaine de Montreuil was purchased in 1783 by Louis XVI. The house was much bigger than it is today. The layout of the rooms has been altered in the late 18th century.
