If you already have visited Zoo de Thoiry, you can wonder what changes from the ordinary car-visit. Well, the drive-through safari aboard a safari shuttle changes a lot: we enjoy the explanations from a healer, the driver enjoys the show instead of driving, we can hold children in our arms and the best is for the end: we discover pens normally closed to the public!
Hippos, wildebeests and wolves are just a few feet away from the shuttle and the novelty is that we can be as close as possible to the 3 lions, Przewalski’s horses and the zoo’s camel, Zoubida, that comes to scoff at us. During the visit, we are very close to the zoo’s residents and Franck, passionate about animals, tells us crunchy anecdotes!
We loved meeting GoodYear, a bear punished in a pen for spending years bursting tires of the car-driven visitors, the female hyenas that beat male hyenas hollow by pulling their ears, without forgetting the zoo’s camel, Zoubida, that loves having her picture taken!
If paying extra €8 puts a damper on you, we can assure you that the visit has nothing to see with the car-visit because of the explanations. The truck goes in every remote places and Franck stays for several minutes at each spot to give you enough time to find and observe the tender moments of the ZOO to be discovered below.
To seduce families even more, the Domaine de Thoiry is now having a yearly pass at €38 for adults and €32 for children (excluding public holidays). With the DinoZoore, the maze and the zip-lining (€6), visiting this zoo is everything but a banality!
