That's a success for the Espèces en voie d'illumination Festival, Jardin des Plantes first light festival that saw 370,000 visitors in two months (Nov. 2018-Jan. 2019). If you enjoyed the first edition, the 2nd should delight you since it will be all-things Oceans from November 2019.
A magical experience shaped like a stroll by night to do with your family or friends to discover the monumental light structures set in the alleys and on the pitches of the Jardin des Plantes.
The stroll starts at the place Valhubert where giant lanterns representing creatures gone for 65 million years and species currently threatened. In 2019, the festival will focus on ocean species to go along with the Océans exhibition and we can already see ourselves meet with polar bears or penguins. We already met a great white shark.
All in all, 50 monumental light structures we can discover all along our walk, staging 4 different sea universes. The travel starts with a "Promenade on the tropical shore" and continues with a "dive into hot waters" then the "mysterious abysses" to end with a "swim in cold waters".
Then, head to the Ménagerie to discover what’s next: giant and light animals amongst real life animals made of skin and fur! Here's an original experience to discover the real inhabitants of the zoo along light versions. Don't be afraid, only animals who are not disturbed by light are here, the others being safe of all light.
A unique and poetic festival paced with living shows on the theme of the fauna and the flora and workshops for kids aiming at raising awareness about the essential importance of protecting the environment! Some of them were still common animals not long ago, but are now endangered species...
